We chose Avignon as our base for our trip because it was close to where we were doing a wine tour (can’t wait to start blogging about our wine tour!) and it had a TGV station. It made it very easy to get to Provence from Paris. After we had decided on Avignon, we realized it had a very unique history. Avignon’s relationship to the Catholic faith was one of the most interesting parts. During the 14th Century there were six papal conclaves held in Avignon and the popes were based in France. This was the one thing I had wanted to do while we were in Avignon. We spent a HOT afternoon touring the Palais de Papes. I love history and there is definitely a TON of history in these walls.
