Have you ever lived somewhere and wished you had done more there after you moved away? For me, that was when I lived in Southeast Massachusetts. There are so many places that I want to visit now in New England. When I moved to Doylestown, I made sure to explore and do things in the area. A few years ago, I went to The Tileworks of Bucks County, and last week, I went back with a friend.
We began our visit by exploring the gift shop. Then we took a tour of the tile-making process. After the tour and witnessing how the tiles were made, I gained a greater appreciation for the items available in the gift shop.
I recommend a visit here during your time in Doylestown.
There were some great treasures to see on the self-guided tour. The tour began with a video about Henry Mercer that we chose not to watch and it is in an amazing room!
After seeing this Mercer tile fireplace, I want one.
Many treasures and molds to admire.
The clay used is local and kept in the “basement.”
Love that the way the clay is brought up is by this pulley system.

My favorite part of the tour was meeting and speaking with the ceramists. I love it when people love their jobs, and the two ceramists we met were amazing. You could feel the passion they have for their work by speaking with them. It’s great to see the craft of tile making being preserved and continued.
