Along with my parents, I had a little get away to The Berkshires. For those who aren’t familiar with this area, The Berkshires is known for its picturesque mountains, charming small towns, and vibrant arts scene. It is located in Western Massachusetts, offering a perfect retreat. I was excited about this trip as it was my first time staying in the area. Thanks to a friend, who has a time share, we were able to get a room last minute at a lovely resort tucked away in the serene hills. It was starting to get busy at the resort, as we were approaching the 4th of July holiday. We were looking for somewhere that was cooler than the 90 degree and humid weather that we were experiencing in Bucks County, PA. The weather was a welcome change, with temperatures in the 70s and a pleasant absence of humidity. It provided the perfect conditions for us to explore the area. One of the highlights of our trip was the opportunity to do a little hiking to the breathtaking waterfalls that are scattered across the region. The tranquil sound of cascading water, surrounded by lush greenery, created a truly magical experience, allowing us to connect with nature in a profound way. Overall, our getaway to The Berkshires was a rejuvenating escape filled with unforgettable moments and serene natural beauty.

I know I might be late to game with using Google maps for saving locations that I find and want to visit. I like to search for things we like to do in the area we are heading to visit. If you have been following me for a little bit, you know that I like to find waterfalls and covered bridges. I search for them when researching an area. Now I have started lists and saving the locations. It made it very easy to get from location to location. This is a feature I will continue to us on our trips.

Pecks Falls

As I was saying, having the ability to save and organize locations using Google Maps has definitely streamlined my travel planning process. Being able to easily navigate from one point of interest to another without any hassle has been a game changer. Moreover, the fact that I can create lists and categorize the locations based on different criteria has made the whole experience even more enjoyable and efficient. For instance, saving the locations of waterfalls and covered bridges in specific lists has allowed me to have a more focused exploration when I visit different areas. I’m looking forward to further utilizing this feature in my future travels to discover even more hidden gems like Pecks Falls.

Located in Greylock Glen is Pecks Falls, a stunning natural attraction that never fails to captivate visitors with its serene beauty. When traveling with my parents, I always seek out waterfalls that are easily accessible, either visible from the road or requiring only a short hike. After reading that Peck’s Falls was just a 0.2-mile hike, I eagerly added it to our must-see list for the day. The short trek to the falls proved to be a delightful experience, providing a perfect opportunity for us to immerse ourselves in the picturesque surroundings while enjoying a leisurely walk in nature. As we approached the falls, the tranquil sound of cascading water grew louder, building anticipation for the breathtaking sight that awaited us. The beauty of Peck’s Falls truly surpassed all expectations, and the effortless journey only enhanced our overall enjoyment of this hidden gem.

I was the only hiker near the falls, which allowed for few minutes of solitude.

North Adams

After visiting Pecks Fall, we drove through North Adams. Since we have taken a number of road trips, we have gotten our strategies down for meals. We like stay at places with a full kitchen, so we can cook breakfast and dinner. We have found it saves time, money and is healthier. We need to watch the salt intake for my mom. We found a spot for us to do a car picnic, which we started doing during the pandemic. After lunch we drove through North Adams towards Bissel Covered Bridge. Here are a few photos of us driving through North Adams.

Natural Bridge State Park

My favorite way to travel is with flexible plans. We begin with an idea of what we want to do and as we see other things we want to do we explore. We were heading to Bissel Covered Bridge and a saw a sign for Natural Bridge State Park, so we headed there. I really enjoyed this park. It was a former Marble Quarry. There is a beautiful waterfall against the marble and a natural bridge. It’s now something you could walk over. The park ranger was so helpful with what trails were there. Exploring the park further, we discovered fascinating historical information about the marble quarry and its significance to the local area. Additionally, we stumbled upon a serene picnic spot near the waterfall and spent some time surrounded by the sounds of nature. The experience at Natural Bridge State Park left a lasting impression, showcasing the beauty of spontaneous exploration and the rewards of embracing flexibility in our travel plans.

Bissell Covered Bridge

One of the great things about covered bridges is the unique sense of history and tradition they carry. When my parents and I set out to visit Bissell Covered Bridge, we didn’t expect to stumble upon a picturesque waterfall flowing gracefully beneath the wooden structure, adding to the serene ambiance of the place. This experience reminded us of our visit to the Packsaddle Covered Bridge earlier in the year, nestled in the idyllic landscapes of the Laurel Highlands in Pennsylvania. Bissell Covered Bridge, however, left a lasting impression on us. The meticulous care and maintenance were evident, and we even had the chance to meet the caretaker during our visit. They kindly shared with us the tradition of decorating the bridge for special occasions, such as Christmas and the 4th of July, adding a touch of festive charm to its already enchanting allure.

Arthur A. Smith Covered Bridge

After visiting Natural Bridge State Park, we made our way to Arthur A. Smith Covered Bridge, a charming and historic landmark nestled in the picturesque town of Colrain, MA. As we approached the bridge, we were greeted by the soothing sights and sounds of nature, from the gentle flow of the nearby river to the lush greenery that enveloped the area. What captured our attention the most, however, were the cows grazing peacefully in the verdant fields surrounding the bridge. Their presence added a quaint and pastoral charm to the scene, making our visit truly unforgettable.

Sabrina’s Scoop

We finished our day exploring with some delicious ice cream from Sabrina’s Scoop. It was delicious and the best pistachio ice cream I have enjoyed. The creamy texture and rich flavor of the pistachio ice cream were truly remarkable, leaving a delightful nutty aftertaste that lingered on my palate. Additionally, there was vegan vanilla on the menu, a pleasant surprise that catered to various dietary preferences. It offered a smooth and refreshing taste, making it a great option for those seeking dairy-free alternatives. The presence of vegan ice cream on the menu reminded me of my friend Jenny, a dedicated vegan with a passion for unique dessert options. The thoughtful inclusion of such items made our visit even more enjoyable, knowing that there were options for everyone to savor.
