For over 20 years, I have had the privilege of exploring various destinations and immersing myself in different cultures, and I am excited to share some valuable insights to enhance your next adventure. Whether you are embarking on a solo journey or traveling with companions, these tips are designed to cater to every traveler. Throughout my travels, I have come to realize the importance of being adaptable, as unforeseen circumstances can arise, requiring flexibility and a positive outlook. Embracing the unexpected with patience and open-mindedness has enriched my travel experiences beyond measure. Additionally, extending kindness towards fellow travelers and locals has not only enriched my interactions, but has also led to unforgettable connections and meaningful experiences. These qualities, patience and kindness, are indispensable attributes that contribute to crafting memorable, enriching journeys.

Air Tags

I can extend upon my previous response by emphasizing the usefulness of AirTags in keeping track of luggage during travel. Carrying AirTags in luggage, especially when checking it in, can be crucial in ensuring its safe retrieval. Countless anecdotes from acquaintances have highlighted the effectiveness of AirTags in promptly locating misplaced luggage. Conversely, instances of prolonged or permanent loss of luggage have been attributed to the absence of AirTags. It’s worth noting that I make it a habit to place AirTags in all my bags, not just when I’m traveling. That is why I highly recommend getting a pack of four. This simple precaution has provided peace of mind and has proven invaluable over time.

Packing Cubes

I have used packing cubes for many years, but until I started following RileeJSmith on Instagram, did I realize that I wasn’t using them to maximize my packing. I have used a couple different types of packing cubes, but have found these to be the best packing cubes. I don’t have any videos of me packing, but RileeJSmith’s Instagram will give you all the tips you need. Moreover, her insights on packing techniques and organization have completely revolutionized the way I approach packing for my travels. Her creative ideas and practical demonstrations make the process of packing and organizing significantly more efficient. As someone who frequently travels for work, I’ve particularly seen the benefits of her tips when it comes to packing blazers and other professional attire. Efficiency and proper organization have become indispensable aspects of my travel preparations, allowing me to save time and hassle while on the road.

My friend Jenny bought the packing cubes and this is a photo of her using them for a trip. She was only able to use half of the suitcase and she fit two weeks of clothes in one half of her luggage.

Location sharing

Sharing your location with trusted family and friends can provide an added layer of safety and security, especially when traveling alone or with companions. Whether you’re off on a solo adventure or exploring with others, having someone not directly with you aware of your whereabouts can offer peace of mind. In addition to the apps, there are various other platforms and tools available for location sharing, such as Apple’s Find My Friends, WhatsApp’s real-time location sharing feature, and social media check-ins. It’s important to ensure that you are comfortable with the app or method chosen for sharing your location and that the individuals you share it with are reliable and can be counted on in case of an emergency. By proactively sharing your location with trusted contacts, you can enhance your overall safety and well-being during your travels.

Luggage

There is a plethora of fantastic luggage options available in the market today, each offering its own set of unique features and benefits. One such remarkable piece of luggage that has caught my attention is the Roam luggage, which currently serves as my primary carry-on. I acquired it during a promotional sale at the end of the year, and I have been thoroughly impressed with its quality and functionality. Roam offers a customizing service, allowing customers to personalize their luggage, although personally, the color customizations hold little appeal to me. What truly sets this luggage apart for me is its exceptional wheels, which effortlessly glide over carpeting, making the oftentimes challenging task of pulling luggage through airport or hotel hallways significantly easier. Having experienced the frustration of waiting for extended periods, sometimes over 45 minutes, for luggage at my hometown airport in Philadelphia, I have come to rely heavily on the efficiency of carry-on luggage. This, paired with the use of packing cubes, has proven to be a lifesaver for me when it comes to packing, making checking luggage a last resort.

When traveling solo, it is important that you can handle your luggage without any help. You don’t want to be struggling as it opens you up for someone to steal or pickpocket from you. Additionally, having lightweight and easily maneuverable luggage can make your solo travel experience much smoother. It’s always wise to pack smartly, organizing your essentials in a way that makes them easily accessible without rummaging through your luggage, thus minimizing the chances of drawing unwanted attention to yourself in unfamiliar surroundings.

Don’t Over Plan

My philosophy for traveling is to not over plan my trips. I have found some of my favorite spots on trips by changing things last minute. When I plan a trip, I do a lot of reading of blogs and travel books for the area that I am vacationing. From there I make of list of the “must dos” for a trip and pick to do 1 or 2 things a day. I have realized that when days are over scheduled, I may see a lot. However, I don’t experience much and I am all about the experiences. Embracing spontaneity has led me to stumble upon hidden gems, charming cafes, and breathtaking views that were not in any guidebook. It’s the unexpected turn down a small alleyway, the impromptu conversation with a local, or the discovery of a lively street market that truly enriches my travel experiences. By leaving room for flexibility, I allow myself the freedom to fully immerse in the unique culture and atmosphere of each destination, creating memories that go beyond the typical tourist attractions. This approach has taught me to appreciate the beauty of serendipity and has enriched my journeys in ways I couldn’t have imagined.
