The Grist Mill in Babcock was the most photographed place in West Virginia till the New River Gorge Bridge was built. Every time that I did a search on things for our trip, Babcock State Park kept coming up as a must-see destination, garnering a reputation for its breathtaking landscapes and rich history. The photos that I saw were beautiful year-round, but the ones from the fall were truly stunning, showcasing a vivid tapestry of colors that seemed to dance across the landscape. I was particularly excited that our visit to Babcock was going to be during the fall and it coincided with peak foliage, where the vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows painted a picturesque scene. As we approached the park, I felt a sense of anticipation, eager to capture the beauty that had captivated so many before us. We first saw Babcock State Park highlighted on the Barnwood Builders TV show, which sparked our interest and ignited a desire to explore its scenic trails and witness its iconic mill up close, making it a cherished stop on our adventure through West Virginia.

While we were visiting, I saw an artist capturing the beauty of the park with great passion. The way she blended colors on her canvas reflected the vibrant hues of the trees surrounding her. I love seeing artists create what they love, as it brings a unique perspective to the world around us. It’s always inspiring to watch creativity flourish in such serene environments. Thank you, Kristin Gibson, for allowing me to capture you creating your artwork; witnessing your process was truly a gift, and your talent brought the entire scene to life in a remarkable way.

When I told friends that I was headed to West Virginia, many of them said to me: Almost Heaven! West Virginia Tourism has done an amazing job on creating photo opportunities surrounding this motto, ensuring that visitors leave with breathtaking memories captured in stunning visual form. They have placed Almost Heaven swings at fourteen state parks, each one uniquely positioned to highlight the natural beauty of the surroundings. These swings are not just simple installations; they are carefully angled to create the best photos, providing a perfect frame for the picturesque landscapes that characterize the region. To enhance the experience further, there is a convenient ledge designed for those traveling solo, allowing you to place your phone securely while setting the timer for a photo. This thoughtful addition means you can capture stunning shots of yourself against the backdrop of the stunning West Virginia scenery, making for unforgettable social media posts that will inspire your friends to visit this beautiful state.

We kept saying on repeat during our trip to West Virginia that we had timed our visit perfectly for fall foliage, as the vibrant hues of amber, crimson, and gold danced through the trees like a breathtaking canvas painted by nature itself. These photos were taken during golden hour, when the soft, warm light enveloped the landscape, casting a magical glow that made everything around us look even more enchanting, and wow, it was truly stunning at the park. We felt like we stepped into a postcard, where every angle seemed like a perfect scene waiting to be captured.
