I love a good last minute trip. Recently, I had the spontaneous idea to head to Washington DC to see the Cherry Blossoms in peak bloom, an experience that had been etched in my memory for years. This was a delightful trip that Nancy and I embarked on many years ago. Back then, we journeyed to DC for Easter, and much to our surprise, we didn’t realize that the Cherry Blossoms would be in full bloom during our visit. It was truly an amazing experience, filled with laughter and joy, and remains one of my favorite trips with her.

The quick planning this time worked out surprisingly well, as my parents were excited and agreed to the trip without hesitation. We set off for DC on Saturday, driving through the scenic routes, and settled into a hotel in Bethesda. Waking up early on Sunday, we were eager to get to the Tidal Basin, arriving as the sun began to cast its warm golden glow at around 7:10 am. To our astonishment, the area was already packed with visitors, and the parking lots overflowed with cars. Traffic was slow-moving as we navigated around the Tidal Basin. My parents enjoyed glimpsing the delicate blossoms from the comfort of our car. Finally, I found a spot that wasn’t technically a designated space, but I was determined to make it work, so I left my parents in the car. I quickly hopped out, capturing some stunning photos of the vibrantly colored blossoms, each petal telling a story of springtime beauty.

When I told my friends that I was in DC to see the Cherry Blossoms, they excitedly asked me if I had the chance to see Barack Obama while I was there. He was visiting the blossoms the day after we were, which made my experience feel even more unique. However, despite the missed opportunity, the trip was still remarkable, filled with the breathtaking views of the blossoms and the vibrant energy of the city, as it came alive during this beautiful season.

We had fun creating memories in DC, exploring the vibrant streets and enjoying the rich history of the city, and these are some beautiful trees around my parents’ home that added to our experience. The lush greenery and the stunning array of foliage provided a serene backdrop for our family gatherings, making every moment feel special. Beauty is truly everywhere, from the charming neighborhoods to the peaceful parks, reminding us of the simple joys in life and the importance of family connections.
