Since we were in western Pennsylvania, we decided to make a stop at Flight 93 National Memorial. Flight 93 was the flight that was to hit the US Capital, and it serves as a poignant reminder of the bravery displayed on that fateful day. The passengers of flight took over the hijackers and brought the plane down in a field in Shanksville, PA, diverting a catastrophic attack and preventing further loss of innocent lives. Nearly 3,000 people lost their lives on September 11th, and these 40 heroes saved even more, making an unimaginable sacrifice for the sake of others. The memorial is extremely well done, beautifully capturing the spirit of resilience and bravery, and I was honored to pay my respects to those who lost their lives here. Wandering through the serene surroundings, I felt a profound sense of gratitude for their courage and a deep sadness at the lives that were forever altered on that day. However, I do recommend if you are in a wheelchair to use the regular bathrooms, as they tend to be more accommodating. The handicap bathroom, while intended for accessibility, is not designed for a wheelchair to easily enter. This can create unnecessary stress and confusion for individuals who rely on such facilities. Overall, it’s essential to ensure that accessibility features truly meet the needs of those they are designed to assist, and our experiences highlight both improvements and areas that still need attention.
