Our trip to New England was primarily for me to attend the gala for Cure NF with Jack, which was to take place in the Boston area. After carefully reviewing the schedule, we decided it would be more enjoyable to drive there, and I was delighted when my parents decided to join us for this adventure. Following our delightful visit to Newport, where we explored the stunning coastal scenery, we made our way to the Encore in Boston, which promised an exciting atmosphere. During our scenic drive, we took the opportunity to stop at a couple of charming places along the way, allowing us to stretch our legs, sample some regional delicacies, and soak in the picturesque landscapes that New England is known for.
New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park
For those that have been following me, you know that my parents and I love to visit National Parks and Historical sites, as each trip offers us a unique opportunity to connect with nature and delve into the rich history that defines our great nation. When we were mapping out our drive, we noticed with a short detour we could stop by the New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park, a place renowned for its significant role in the whaling industry of the 19th century. Ironically, for a few years, I lived in Taunton, MA and never visited, despite being so close to this treasure trove of cultural heritage. Once we arrived, I was able to visit the museum, which was filled with fascinating exhibits showcasing the whaling trade and its impact on the economy and the environment, and get my stamps for the book that follows our travels. It was great to learn some of the whaling history for the area, including stories of the brave sailors who ventured into the vast ocean and the intricate art of crafting whaling tools, which I had only read about before. Overall, the visit was not only educational but also deeply enriching, allowing us to appreciate the perseverance and ingenuity of those who came before us.
John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum
I have visited the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum a couple of times, but my parents have never had the opportunity to experience it for themselves. This time, we decided to change that by making a special trip to visit the museum and enjoy lunch at its café, which offers a stunning view of the surrounding area. The staff were amazing and so helpful with my parents, always ready with a smile and assistance whenever we needed it. As we prepared to leave, they graciously allowed me to drive into the ellipse, a surprising privilege that made our visit even more memorable. One of the security guards mentioned that the head of security must really like me, because he typically doesn’t allow anyone to do that—something that truly made me feel special. To ensure my parents could fully enjoy the exhibits, we put them both in wheelchairs; I would push one to a particular area to take in the fascinating exhibits, then quickly return to get the other one. They loved every moment of the visit, sharing stories and laughter throughout the day, and they still talk about how great our experience was. My mom smiled the whole tour, expressing her joy and delight, which made the outing even more fulfilling for me. It was a day filled with laughter, learning, and priceless memories that we will cherish forever.
Encore Boston Harbor Resort
One of the places that my parents love is Las Vegas and the Wynn, where the bright lights and endless entertainment make every visit an unforgettable experience. For us, however, to travel to Boston is easier than to Vegas, as the distance is significantly shorter and the travel time is more manageable. So, when I had the exciting event in Boston for CureNF with Jack, we decided to stay at the Encore Boston Harbor Resort, which offered us a chance to experience luxury closer to home. We loved our stay and felt like we were in Vegas, just a little smaller, as the hotel had its own vibrant atmosphere, complete with exquisite dining options and stunning views of the harbor. It was a delightful mix of familiarity and novelty that made our trip truly special.
