This week the Tibetan Buddhist Monks of Drepung Gomang Monastery are in Doylestown at Sun Dog Yoga studio creating a Sand Mandala. They started yesterday and here are a couple of pictures of the beginning. It really is an amazing experience to see this created and then dismantled.
Now that takes PATIENCE!

Ohhhhh! These are our monks! Well, not really our monks, but they came here back in 2001 or 2002, I think. They visited friends of mine and stayed at their dojo for about 10 days and did chanting! Then they were invited to my college in Allentown (Cedar Crest) and spent about a week there doing a mandala and other “shows” for the public and went to classes. They were also at Pebble Hill Church and did quite a few days at the Easton Yoga Studio. I did a term paper on the creation, meaning and destruction of the mandala…it was an awesome experience. I highly recommend if they are doing any chanting, go!!! It is so uplifting and a truly wonderful experience!

Thank you! It is an amazing event to watch being made. Last year I went went to the dismantling and it was an amazing experience. I won’t be in town this year for the dismantling, but plan on going to the chanting and prayers on Saturday night!

Yes, and then they sweep it away in the dismantling. It is to show nothing is permanant. VERY inspiring. Have a great weekend!
